The Butia odorata comes from South-Brazil, North-Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay where it grows on grasslands. They can reach 7 meters in height and produce a fat trunk. During summer the leaves turn silvery-blue. These palms grow well at lower temperatures and are tolerant to light to moderate frost (-10°C).
