The Phoenix canariensis originates from the Canary Islands but is planted all over the world. In the Victorian era this palm was already very popular, especially for the elite it was a status symbol. This palm has a fat trunk and long pinnate leaves which have an intense green colour. The leaves stay shorter when they are kept in containers. The Phoenix canariensis is a easy palm for cultivation which grow well on almost all soil types and are tolerant to drought, moisture, heat and cold. The growth is relatively fast compared to other palms. This palm can even tolerate light to moderate frosts (-8°C).
