Bauhinia purpurea is also called the orchid tree because the purple flowers are visually similar to orchid flowers. It is a highly ornamental flowering tree for the subtropics and tropics. In colder climates it should be kept frost free.

These plants drop their leaves in winter. If you order a plant during winter, expect to get a plant without leaves.
