The Brahea armata originates from the south-west of the U.S. and the north-west of Mexico. These beautiful palms have a silvery-blue colour on the leaves caused by a waxy substance. The function of the wax layer on the leaves is to reflect part of the intense sunlight, so that the palm can survive in hot environments. During winter these palms appear greener because the sun is less intense. The inflorescence on adult trees is a spectacular sight. They can be planted in area's that experience warm summers with light to moderate frost (-12°C).
