Heliconia schiedeana

This species is probably the most cool tolerant of all Heliconia species. It originates from Mexico where it grows up to altitudes of 1700 meters. We were impressed by the cool tolerance of this species in our greenhouse. It kept all the green leaves intact while temperatures dropped to 3 degrees Celcius. It flowers very easily during summer. We are currently testing this Heliconia outside in The Netherland. With heavy mulching it might survive and sprout back from it's rhizomes. 

These plants drop their leaves in winter. If you order a plant during winter, expect to get a plant without leaves. During the end of summer the plants are cut to make them fit in the box for shipping.
