Phoenix dactylifera 'Tinghir'
€20,00
This date palm originated from the palm forest near the city of Tinghir in the Todra valley which lies south-east of the Atlas mountains in Morocco. The palms of Tinghir are grown for the production of edible dates. The forest at Tinghir is the highest palm forest of significant size of Morocco (over 1500 meters altitude). Summers are hot and it is always dry but because Tinghir lies very far inland (300 km from the Atlantic ocean) and the high altitude moderate frost is common. Currently it is unknown how much frost these palms can tolerate but looking at the habitat we expect their frost tolerance is better compared to other date palm varieties.
