Satakentia liukiuensis is arguably one of the most beautifull pinnate palm. It is a rare palm that originates from the Ryukyu islands. It has a smooth trunk, a purple crownshaft and large pinnate leaves. In cultivation it is a challenging palm that is not easy to keep. It grows well on sandy soil, it does not like peat soils. It is said that it can briefly survive light frost but we have not tested this ourselves. It grows well in the humid parts of Florida. A must try for the more experienced palm growers.
