Dypsis onilahensis originates from inland locations in Madagascar where it grows in moist riverine forests. Dypsis onilahensis grows up to an altitude of 2400 meters and because of that it is one of the most tolerant to cooler conditions of any palm from the island. It is clustering with multiple trunks and the leaflets are arching downwards.
