Phoenix dactylifera cv. Deglet Nour 'Algeria'

Recent studies suggests that 18% of the genome of African Phoenix dactylifera originates from Phoenix theophrasti. In it's dry and hot habitat they produce long roots to reach for the groundwater, therefor they have to be cultivated in high containers. You would think that this palm has to be kept relatively dry, however they grow better when irrigated regularly. The date palm has a high ornamental value because of the blue-green pinnate leaves. It is tolerant to light and moderate frosts (-8°C). This date palm cultivar comes from Algeria and is one of the most popular edible dates. It originates from the Tolga oasis in Algeria. It's dates have a honey like taste and are moderately soft in texture.
