This palm originates from the town of Nainital (India). It is still not clear what species it belongs to, one theory is that it is a fortunei that changed over time due to the different climatic conditions but it could also be of hybrid origin. What we do know is that all plant parts grow larger compared to fortunei. The trunk is thicker and the leaves are larger but also stronger. The trunks of young plants sometimes grow horizontally but will eventually grow straight. This palm is stronger then fortunei and seems to grow a bit faster. It can handle heavy frost up to -20°C.
